Duke University's Center for Mathematical and Theoretical Sciences(CMTS) needed a logo design that combined the idea of using mathematical tools to describe nature and solve technical problems in the broadest sense, with the concept of creating linkages across disciplines from biology to physics, from environmental science to neuroscience. The logo should convey the goal that the new center is to be transformative to how science is done across disciplinary boundaries at the institution. It needs to be bold without being splashy.
